How Professional Genealogists Research

Genealogy is all about proof. Some genealogists just assume a link and produce a family tree and hey presto the obligatory 'Coat of Arms'. We do not do this at Find Your Lineage, research is approached correctly we start with you and work backwards, one generation at a time. The key to success is to prove absolutely the link between each generation. Like any good family history genealogist, we gather all the evidence, scrutinise the evidence in context, and reach a conclusion based upon all the corroborating evidence.

We will always provide you with the documentation to prove your ancestry wherever possible. This includes copies of the Birth, Marriage, Death Certificates and Census records obtained to prove your lineage and any other relevant research documentation. When we cannot find the proof we will tell you, we will not just make it up.

Depending on what you want projects can take from a few weeks to over 1 year to complete and sometimes longer however we keep you informed every step of the way with regular updates on progress.

For those who do not need a full package. We are happy to consider research activities for individuals. These are charged at an hourly rate minimum 4 hours plus any travelling and accommodation expenses please contact us directly if you would like to use this research facility and require a quotation.

How far can we go back?

This depends to a certain extent on family name and status. Many aristocratic families can trace there family back to 1066 or before but for most of us to get as far back as 1597 is an amazing achievement. Most families can expect to get back to 1700 or 7th and 8th Generation. It is not just about getting as far back as possible though the main joy is What did our ancestors do? Where did they live? and What were their lives like.
